Question:

What is meant by "climatizing" when referring to wood installation?

-- G. Beck, NY, NY.

Answer:

Climatizing refers to acclimating the wood to the conditions of the environment in which it will be installed.  Traditional wood floors require a 2-3 week time frame to acclimate.  In most cases, the room should be "climate controlled" meaning the HVAC should be working and turned on for a few days prior to introducing the wood to the environment.  The ideal environment for the floor is a temperature between 65 and 80 degrees with humidity around 55%.  It's important to maintain that environment at all times to minimize the effects of change which could include cupping of the wood or excessive spacing between the joints.

Centaur Floors premier hardwood sports flooring. Boflex is an all wood, engineered floor.  The manufacturing process increases the stability of the floor by up to 70%.  Consistent environmental conditions are still important, but the increased stability of the Boflex floor can lesson the chance for damage.
