"Can't see the forest for the trees". We've all heard the saying, but do you know what it means? A good example of this is what is going on with the national health care bill. This bill is over 1000 pages of legal jargon filled with line item after line item of "stuff". Meetings are being held all over the country to discuss the "stuff". The discussions focus on specific line items of concern.   This is an example of "not seeing the forest for the trees". The administration's goal is to get a health care bill passed. They want the government to control health care. The line item concerns are not critical...passing a bill is critical. Items can be added or changed later. The passing of a bill gives them control (their objective).   By the people focusing on the line items, it takes the focus away from the main objective. A few "compromises" on the line items will give the appearance of cooperation without effecting the goal.   This is aclassic strategy used in many areas of negotiations, including sales. Beware of the salesman's "pitch". Recognize his objective, to close the deal. The salesman should be an "information source" for you, the consumer.

If you feel you are being sold, back away and regroup.   Make sure you CAN see the forest for the trees!
